ACLU and LA Times Slam Planned Parenthood Bill Restricting Free Speech

Last week, California legislators passed a bill that will penalize journalists who conduct undercover investigations of any “health care providers,” which will include abortion clinics. This legislation, which is being backed by Planned Parenthood, targets organizations like the Center for Medical Progress, who released scandalous video’s last summer of Planned Parenthood officials seemingly conversing over the harvesting and selling of aborted baby body parts.

This bill adds penalties to cover up any further investigations that might take place to reveal shocking facts on Planned Parenthood or any organization that might be operating suspiciously, as it includes “fines and up to a year in prison for recording a conversation with a health care provider,” according to an article by Fox News.

Interestingly enough, the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), which is a liberal organization that supports abortion rights, actually argued against the bill, stating:

“We know of no legitimate governmental reason for singling-out disclosure of all health care provider communications for special criminal sanctions, making the bill vulnerable not only on first amendment grounds but also on equal protection grounds.”

The Los Angeles Times’ editorial board called the bill “mystifying,” given that it gives special protections to certain individuals, and went on to say that “[t]he potential for unanticipated and unwelcome consequences is huge.”

When consistently liberal groups are opposing a Planned Parenthood measure, you can be sure that something is odd.

Remember that many major corporations are funding Planned Parenthood either directly or through third party groups to help further their twisted agenda. Click here to see our resource page that lists all the companies assisting our nation’s largest abortion provider.
