Big Win For NRA In Missouri

Fox News is reporting that the Missouri Legislature overrode several vetoes on Wednesday, including NRA backed measures aimed at strengthening 2nd Amendment rights. With the legislation, Missouri now joins 30 other states that affirm a “stand-your-ground” right to self-defense, the first such law passed by a state since 2011. The new law also expands “castle doctrine” protections to invited guests if confronted in homes.

According to the bill’s sponsor, “”The basis of this whole bill is that it allows law-abiding citizens to protect themselves and their families.”

The NRA certainly scored a big win for the 2nd Amendment in Missouri, yet certain anti-2nd Amendment groups are strangely silent, namely the National Urban League.

The Urban League is a member of the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence, formerly the National Coalition to Ban Handguns. Furthermore, the Urban League has made opposition to “stand-your-ground” principles a key plank in it’s “Policy on Civil Rights” platform.

Several companies and organizations like American Express, Darden Restaurants, and the NFL have all supported the Urban League’s anti-2nd Amendment, anti-self-defense advocacy which has included spreading misinformation on “stand-your-ground” measures. Interestingly though, the Urban League hasn’t addressed Missouri’s new law making us wonder if this liberal organization just feels that the issue isn’t politically expedient right now.
