A&W Restaurants is an Americas oldest restaurant chain, made famous for it's draft root beer and root beer floats. In 1919, founder Roy W. Allen set up a roadside drink stand serving root beer at a parade to honor returning World War I veterans in Lodi, California. Frank Wright partnered with Allen in 1922 and the first restaurant was founded in Sacramento, California in 1923. Elevated to franchise status in 1926, the chain currently has locations in the United States and even in some Southeast Asian countries. A&W Restaurants is owned and operated by A Great American Brand, LLC.
