Groupon is a deal-of-the-day and coupon website that is localized to major markets in the United States and Canada. Groupon offers coupons for a wide range of coupons from restaurants, travel, sporting events, clothing, and many others. Groupon’s revenue for 2013 was approximately 7 billion.
After the Sandy Hook shooting, Groupon briefly discontinued all firearms related deals. Those offers have been reopened in some locations and on a case-by-case basis. Groupon currently has weapon related deals, such as concealed carry permit classes. Groupon has contributed to YWCA, a member of the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence. Groupon has partnered with the Sierra Club and Sierra Club Foundation, which support cap-and-trade legislation. Groupon has also contributed to World Wildlife Fund (WWF), which supports cap-and-trade and carbon tax legislation. The WWF objects to further oil and gas development, including construction of the Keystone XL pipeline. Groupon signed on to an amicus brief in favor of the Supreme Court overturning state bans on same-sex marriage. Groupon posted a video to their Facebook page showing support for same-sex marriage. Groupon also signed an open letter to Illinois lawmakers urging them to legalize same-sex marriage. Groupon received a score of 100 on the Human Rights Campaign’s 2016 Corporate Equality Index. A score of 100 indicates adherence on the part of the company to specific criterion that includes financial support to organizations advocating for same-sex marriage.
