30 Mar Company Contrast: In-N-Out vs. Jack in the Box
Each week, 2ndVote carefully examines various companies and evaluates their alignment with our values. Through our series, Company Contrast, we highlight companies that either exemplify or fall short of these values and provide alternatives for those looking to make informed choices. This week, we turn our attention to In-N-Out (4.07,) as we reflect on their business practices in relation to our values.
These days, there are plenty of choices for where to get a great burger, but it can be tough to find a place that aligns with your taste and values. For those looking to make an informed decision, it’s worth considering In-N-Out as a top option for satisfying your burger cravings. In-N-Out Burger is a popular fast-food chain in the United States, known for its fresh and made-to-order burgers and fries. Founded in 1948 by Harry and Esther Snyder, the company has been family-owned and operated for three generations. With a focus on using only high-quality, fresh ingredients and a simple yet customizable menu, In-N-Out Burger has gained a dedicated following of fans who rave about its delicious food and friendly service. They operate over 350 restaurants in six states, and despite its limited geographic reach, the company has become an iconic brand and is often ranked among the best fast-food chains in the country. Their commitment to quality and customer satisfaction has earned them a loyal customer base, and the company continues to expand its reach while maintaining its core values. We strongly believe that this company is a better match for our values in comparison to its competitors, as it has scored neutral or better on all six key issues we assess. An example of this is In-N-Out’s donation of $85,000 to the Teen Challenge chapter, which is a faith-based addiction rehabilitation organization. Given their longstanding history and steadfast commitment to shared values, In-N-Out is an outstanding alternative to consider over one of it’s main competitors, Jack in the Box (1.73).
When you decide to have a meal at In-N-Out, you can be confident that you’re backing a company that shares your values. Conversely, Jack in the Box score of (1.73) is a clear indicator of the beliefs in which they stand to support. On four out of the six issues we evaluate, namely Life, Civil-Safe Society, Education, and Environment, they received low scores. One concerning action by Jack in the Box is their contributions to the American Red Cross, which supports UnidosUS, an organization that supports sanctuary cities. We encourage you to reach out to Jack in the Box and express your views, with the hope that they will reconsider their stance and return to neutral.
