Company Contrast: Turning Point USA {Issues: Basic Freedoms}

Each week 2ndVote takes a look at popular companies that score poorly and then try to provide alternatives that either better align with your 2ndVote values or should be avoided to the best of your ability. This series is called The Company Contrast – Navigating the Non-Profits, and the organization we will be focusing on this week is Turning Point USA (4.43).

Turning Point USA was founded in 2012 by conservative activist Charlie Kirk to promote “the principles of freedom, free markets, and limited government” on college and high school campuses nationwide. Since its founding Turning Point USA has become a lightning rod of conservative values in media and politics. As a 501(c)(3) non-profit, your donations to them are used to fund campaigns supporting American values in education, activism grants for conservative students, and events – both live and virtual – addressing the most critical issues in America today. Turning Point USA scored perfect fives on their advocacy for Life, the Second Amendment, Basic Freedoms, and the Environment. Their undying work in these critical areas is making a profound difference on campuses to influence young people. Our research analysts studied Turning Point USA’s tax documents, advocacy affiliations, and policies to score them against our comprehensive criteria. Very few organizations score this well. For these reasons, we encourage you to allocate your giving dollars to Turning Point USA.

By way of full disclosure, 2nd Vote founders Dr David Black and Senator Martha Black have appeared on the Charlie Kirk Show several times in 2021. You can see those shows here.

On the other hand, not all non-profits are so accurately named, not worthy of your giving dollars. For example, the Center for American Progress (CAP) scored a 1.33 in our system. CAP has actively engaged in activism contrary to American values across the board. With support for abortion, criminalizing constitutional firearm ownership, de-funding police, and other unsavory interests, CAP has proven unfriendly to the core values of the American family. If you choose not to donate to Turning Point USA, we would recommend donating to your local church or directly to those in need.
