17 May In-the-News Update [Issue: Basic Freedoms]
Social media platforms have quickly become a space for individuals to voice their opinions on various topics. However, there has been a tremendous amount of backlash for many high-profile conservatives that voice theirs. Recently Texas passed HB 20, a law that allows social media users to sue companies they believe have blocked their use due to their political views. This law also prohibits content removal based on other users reporting content due to their own personal viewpoint. Some are arguing that this new law is unconstitutional and goes against the media platforms First Amendment right.
