In-the-News Update [Issue: Civil-Safe Society]

On Tuesday of this week, House Republic Leader and nominee for next Speaker of the House, Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) made a statement calling for the resignation of the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, Alejandro Mayorkas, or face threat of impeachment. His claims were made on the foundation that “His actions have produced the greatest wave of illegal immigration in recorded history.” With over 4 million migrant encounters over the past two years, the Biden administration continues to blame the crisis on “a combination of root causes like violence, poverty and climate change in Central America, as well as the abolition of legal pathways by the Trump administration.” Only time will tell if McCarthy is elected to the position of Speaker, and if the Republican majority actually does anything to follow up on their promises of action.
