Liberal Immigration Group Prefers Toxic Rhetoric Over Solutions

As America’s pundits, politicians, and pastors debate the Trump administration’s crackdown on immigration, UnidosUS — formerly known as La Raza — has jumped into the fray. Unlike many of the bipartisan and nonpartisan voices which are trying to find the most moral and effective solutions to the separation of children from their parents, the group has chosen toxic rhetoric and obstruction.

The following Tweets are just a sample of the harm UnidosUS causes to the goal of having a humane and effective immigration system:

Again, none of this rhetoric is helpful. But UnidosUS goes even further in being an opponent of effective immigration reform by backing sanctuary cities. In a 2015 letter, then-La Raza opposed a bill to crack down on sanctuary cities. Likewise, the group prioritized “a clean DREAM bill” over a more balanced approach that included a more secure U.S. border.

The fact is that sanctuary cities do no good and much harm for the rule of law and effective immigration reform. Yet UnidosUS continues to proclaim itself as “the nation’s largest Latino civil rights and advocacy organization,” and corporations donated more than four million dollars to it last year.

UnidosUS is clearly harming our nation’s discourse and public policy solutions on immigration. We urge you to do your part to stop them by refusing to buy from their corporate sponsors. Their full list is below and more information can be found at this link on Page 37.
