Navigating the Nonprofits

The Company Contrast Navigating the Non-Profits – AARP {Issues: 1st Amendment, 2nd Amendment, Life, Education, Environment, Border Security}

Each week 2ndVote takes a look at popular companies or organizations that either score well or score poorly.  We then try to provide alternatives that better align with the 2ndVote values. We’ve now expanded into nonprofits. This series is called The Company Contrast – Navigating the Non-Profits, and the charitable organizations we will be focusing on this week are AARP (1.00) and AMAC (5.00).

Founded in 1958 by Ethel P. Andrus, AARP originally evolved from the National Retired Teacher Association to become one of the most influential advocacy groups for Americans aged 50 and older. Although AARP is synonymous with lobbying and advocacy related to senior healthcare and social security, their activism has largely strayed from the traditional values held by the majority of their chief clientele. Through a whole host of support actions to various organizations, AARP has earned the lowest possible scores on ALL of the 2ndVote key issues. The worst examples being corporate sponsorships for the National Urban League and the National Women’s Law Center, the first of which opposes “Stand Your Ground” laws, and the latter being an organization that maintains a pro-abortion stance. Further activism includes support for organizations that advocate for sanctuary cities, Common Core education, carbon tax and more. Though they claim to be an association for Americans, AARP has all but lost touch with the very people they represent.

A fortunate alternative can be found in the Association of Mature American Citizens, or AMAC. Marketed as the direct Conservative competitor to AARP, members can rest assured that they stand by what they claim. As a response to ObamaCare, AMAC was founded in 2007 to advocate for American Seniors where organizations like AARP had failed to do so. Due to their official stances taken as being pro-life, pro-2nd Amendment, pro-school choice, and advocating for Religious liberty, legal immigration, and being against carbon tax, AMAC earns high scores on all six key 2ndVote issues!
