The Company Contrast – Navigating the Non-Profits – Achieve, Inc. {Issue: Education}

Each week 2ndVote takes a look at popular companies or organizations that either score well or score poorly.  We then try to provide alternatives that better align with the 2ndVote values. We’ve now expanded into nonprofits. This series is called The Company Contrast – Navigating the Non-Profits, and the charitable organizations we will be focusing on this week are Achieve, Inc. (2.67) and The American Federation for Children (3.33)

It is almost universally understood that our children and their education truly are the future of our country. And due to COVID, children and parents across the nation are having to adapt to hybrid and online schooling that is not only unorthodox to say the least but also presents challenges that are unprecedented. Now more than ever, school choice and the ability for families to make the best educational decision for them must be protected. That is why your donated dollar should avoid organizations like Achieve, Inc. Though they are an education-centric nonprofit with the goal of improving education outcomes, their advocacy is based on a pro-common core framework. This earns Achieve, Inc. low marks on the 2ndVote issue of education.

On the other hand, your donated dollars can rest assured in supporting an organization like The American Federation for Children. As a national advocacy organization, The American Federation for Children works to promote pro-school choice legislation on multiple levels. With a specific focus on school vouchers, scholarship tax credit programs, and education savings accounts, The American Federation for Children earns high scores on the issue of Education, while remaining neutral on all others.
