11 Mar The Company Contrast Navigating the Non-Profits – Susan G. Komen {Issues: Life}
Each week 2ndVote takes a look at popular companies or organizations that either score well or score poorly. We then try to provide alternatives that better align with the 2ndVote values. We’ve now expanded into nonprofits. This series is called The Company Contrast – Navigating the Non-Profits, and the charitable organizations we will be focusing on this week are Susan G. Komen (2.67) and Abort 73 (3.33).
Founded in 1982 by Nancy G. Brinker, in honor of her late sister Susan, the Susan G. Komen foundation is one of the world’s leading nonprofit entities funding breast cancer research. Since then, the foundation has raised and invested over $2.9 billion in research and other community programs in the U.S. and sixty other countries. Unfortunately, approximately $1.2 million of that has been either donated or matched to various Planned Parenthood chapters over the past several years. This sort of consistent partnership with a leading abortion provider means that the Susan G. Komen Foundation earns the lowest possible scores on the 2ndVote issue of Life.
Alternatively, those looking to make their annual charitable donations but also want to promote their pro-life principles may consider supporting Abort 73. Launched in 2005 by Loxafamosity Ministry, Inc., Abort 73 is a non-profit educational resource campaign geared toward providing the information and tools for individuals to learn about and promote pro-life principles. Offering detailed reports on statistics from different countries, as well as historical perspectives, Abort 73 is a worthwhile platform that’s dedicated to the pro-life fight. For that, they receive top marks on the 2ndVote issue of Life.
