23 Jun The Company Contrast – PayPal
Each week 2ndVote takes a look at a popular company that scores poorly on the 2ndVote scoring system and then provides some better alternatives for you to easily align your shopping dollars with your values. This series is called The Company Contrast, and the company we will be focusing on this week is PayPal (1.57).
PayPal is one of the leading e-commerce services available to small and large businesses alike, offering transaction services via the internet as well as credit lines for customers. However, PayPal’s actions and policies have earned them a very low score of 1.57. In particular, PayPal scores poorly on the issues of Life, Marriage, 1st Amendment/Religious Liberty, 2nd Amendment, Immigration, and Environment. Notably, PayPal even cut all ties with businesses in the firearms industry, banning the use of their services for any transactions involving firearms and/or ammo.
As an alternative to PayPal, customers and business owners have the option of using Cornerstone Payment Systems (3.86) or ProPay (3.57). Cornerstone in particular is an openly Christian organization and scores well on the issues of Life, 1st Amendment/Religious Liberty, and Marriage. Likewise, ProPay scores well on the issues of Marriage and Life for having favorable partnerships with the Salvation Army. With these alternatives, consumers and business owners alike can rest assured that their payment processor has their values in mind.
