The Scoop on Ben & Jerry’s Israel Boycott {Issue: Basic Freedoms}

Ben & Jerry’s has, time and time again, proven itself to be a champion of leftist values.  This is why 2ndVote has Ben & Jerry’s scored at a whopping 1.00.  This past Monday, the company earned its ranking yet again by calling Israel – America’s one consistent, democratic ally in the Middle East – “Occupied Palestinian Territory.”

Politically, this statement is outrageous – the Hamas part of the Palestinian government is a terrorist organization, while Israel goes out of its way to warn civilians of pending attacks. It’s even worse morally and ethically because this statement is in support of the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement – an anti-Semitic movement which says Israel has no right to exist. BDS advocates for the economic takedown of cornerstone businesses in Israel and often the revocation of Israel’s status as a Jewish homeland.

Such positions have no place in an ice cream manufacturer’s brand. If you’re traditionally-minded and a long-time customer of Ben & Jerry’s, this statement should inspire you to take action to show Ben & Jerry’s that they should stick to making ice cream. We urge you to get your ice cream fix by buying from alternatives such as Cold Stone Creamery, Blue Bunny, or Blue Bell.  These brands all score at 3.00 on our ethical scale, and won’t have you balancing your support of Israel against your sugary ice cream cravings.
